Sean Woodson on Victory over Collin Anglin: ‘He Didn’t Want to Be in There with Me’

At UFC Fight Night 197, Sean Woodson made another statement in the Ultimate Fighting Championship 145-pound division. That night, Woodson (9-1, 3-1 UFC) put Collin Anglin away after targeting his opponent’s body with some nasty punches. The official end arrived at the 4:30 mark of the opening stanza. After a perfectly landed combination to the body, “The Sniper” even pointed a finger at his opponent, a gesture that meant both “I got you” and that something bad was about to happen.

“That’s just me being me,” Woodson told Sherdog. “That’s something that I do in sparring all the time. In the actual fight, though, I don’t remember making the conscious decision to do that. It just kind of came out for me being me.”

Truth be told, the Glory MMA standout felt that his opponent wasn’t quite ready for war that night.

“When I first got in there with him, I don’t know what it was, and I’m not trying to talk trash or be disrespectful, but the moment I got in there with him, I just had this feeling that he didn’t want to be in there with me,” Woodson said. “Usually, when I go into these fights, all of us fighters are confident. I go in there supremely confident. The majority of the time, I can feel that confidence coming off my opponent, and I’m like, ‘OK, I’m confident, he’s confident, this is about to be a dog fight. He’s here to fight. This is going to be a fight.’ The moment I stepped in that cage and looked over at him, I just didn’t feel that same energy coming off him. I just had this overwhelming vibe that he didn’t want to be in there with me, and as the fight played out, that grew stronger and stronger. He knew from the get-go that he was outmatched and that this fight wasn’t going to go well for him.”

Woodson also talked about taking his first vacation in a while, explained why the Joshua Culibao matchup never materialized, called out Melsik Baghdasaryan, discussed taking a picture with Max Holloway, and more.
