After having nine bouts canceled in a row, Raush Manfio told his manager he would fight for free.
Nearly three years without fight, with two daughters and a wife to feed, the Brazilian made the most difficult decision of his life, walking away from the sport he loves where he built a record of 11-3. Just hours later his phone rang and his manager told him that Olivier Aubin-Mercier had been injured and he would be getting a call up to the majors.
“I thought it was a joke. I just remember my baby daughter asking why I was crying,” recalled Raush in an exclusive chat with Sherdog Brazilian correspondent Marcelo Alonso.
It was then that the American Top Team product found his way. After beating Joilton Lutterbach in the first phase of Professional Fighters League’s 2021 Season, Manfio promises a second round knockout of former Ultimate Fighting Championship ace Anthony Pettis on June 25 to reach the PFL playoffs and get closer to reach his dream to win $1 million to give a better future to his family.
