Mohammed Usman, Brother of Kamaru, On Why He Chose PFL

It may take a while before fans see Mohammed Usman debut in the Professional Fighters League, but he wants to be at his best when it happens.

Usman (7-1), who appears in Thursday’s edition of the YouTube series “Prep Point” with Lilian Garcia, inked a deal with PFL back in March after making a name for himself in the regional scene. At the time, “The Motor” was one of the most exciting free-agents as all the big leagues were courting him. In a recent interview with Sherdog, he elaborated on why he chose to sign with PFL.

“It's simple, PFL just came with the best offer,” he said. “When you have every offer in front of you, and then you think ‘OK, you want to feed your family at the end of the day, what's the best offer on the table?’ PFL had the best offer. I know this season has been kind of down, especially when they didn't have fights, but it was for a good reason. Of course, it was because to protect us fighters. We fight on ESPN at a high level. You can't just jump into the fire. I respect PFL, and it's a great organization, and they simply offered me the best deal.”

Back in March, COVID-19 was still a distant thought for many, and nobody would have imagined that PFL would cancel its 2020 season due to the pandemic. Even though the majority of PFL fighters were forced to wait and let the things cool down, Usman was able to reach a deal with the promotion to keep on polishing his skills in Titan Fighting Championships. That's why he competed on the recent Titan FC 63 card, where “The Motor” upended Terrance Hodges via decision, earning his fourth straight victory.

“The PFL has been more than welcoming,” he revealed. “They let me go fighting for Titan, and, if possible, I might get one more in before the end of the year for Titan, just to close up the year and wrap up and get me ready for the PFL season. The PFL has been very understanding of everything that I've needed to do in my career.”

If everything goes according to PFL's plans, the 2021 season will start in April 2021, and it will feature fighters from six weight classes competing for a $1 million prize.
