Pride, UFC and Strikeforce veteran Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou was one of eight fighters to receive his walking papers from Bellator MMA.
Sherdog.com confirmed the cuts on Thursday with a Bellator official following an initial report from BloodyElbow.com. The other fighters released from the Scott Coker-led promotion were: Rafael Silva, Antonio Duarte, Alejandro Villalobos, Jesse Juarez, Curtis Millender, Razak Al-Hassan and Julio Cesar Neves Jr.
Sokoudjou began his Bellator tenure with stoppage victories over Terry Davinney and Malik Merad in 2014. In his most recent outing, however, “The African Assassin” suffered a second-round technical knockout loss to Linton Vassell at Bellator 134.
Other notable names from Bellator’s cut list include Silva, who was 3-2 with the promotion and won the 2013 Summer Series bantamweight tournament and Neves, who suffered his first loss in 30 professional outings against Jordan Parsons at Bellator 137.
