Philip De Fries Bests Luis Henrique to Retain Title at KSW 50
Konfrontacja Sztuk Walki celebrated its 50th
numbered event at the SSE Arena in London, England on Sept. 14.
The main event featured a heavyweight showcase between KSW champion Philip De Fries and UFC veteran Luis Henrique. De Fries imposed his far superior wrestling skills against the Brazilian challenger throughout the contest, and managed to keep him at distance thanks to some clean jabs. Henrique, on the other hand, attempted on several occasions to submit the champion from the clinch, but “F-11” showed once again why he has never been submitted in his pro career. After five rounds, the judges awarded De Fries (18-6) a split decision victory.
In the co-main event, KSW light-heavyweight champion Tomasz
Narkun put his belt on the line against Przemyslaw
Mysiala. It took less than a round for Narkun (17-3) to secure
his fourth title defense thanks a combination of a right overhand
followed by a guillotine choke which proved to be lethal for the
challenger. With this victory, “Giraffe” bounced back from his
unsuccessful attempt to seize the heavyweight title from De Fries
at KSW 47.
In a 176-pound catchweight bout, surging KSW welterweight champion Roberto Soldic bested Michal Pietrzak via unanimous decision in a non-title fight. Soldic was scheduled to put his belt on the line against Patrik Kincl, but former Polish wrestling champion Pietrzak stepped in after Kincl got injured. The contestants went back and forth for all the three rounds, but in the end Soldic took home a unanimous decision victory.
In a five-round war, Norman Parke bested Marcin Wrzosek and won the KSW Interim Lightweight Title via split decision.
Elsewhere, Damian Janikowski bested Tony Giles via verbal submission in the opening stanza of their middleweight encounter; in a 185-pound contest, Jason Radcliffe defeated Antoni Chmieleski via unanimous decision; middleweight contender Dricus Du Plessis smashed Joilton Santos via TKO in the second round; and Aleksandra Rola crushed Catherine Costigan via TKO in the second frame of their strawweight contest.
