The Ultimate Fighting Championship carried on its marathon of events that will stop before Thanksgiving weekend with a Fight Night event that on paper raised eyebrows. The main attractions largely fell flat, but early matchups did not disappoint. UFC Fight Night 193 featured the first official scarf hold armlock in company history, the end of a “Pitbull” era and a rising unbeaten star that put herself on Valentina Shevchenko’s radar for the wrong reasons.

Early Action Extravaganza: All four post-fight bonuses came in the form of “Performance of the Night” awards, going to Casey O'Neill, Jamie Mullarkey, Douglas Silva de Andrade and Alejandro Perez for their finishes on the prelims. UFC Fight Night 193 is the first event since UFC 255 in 2020 where no main card tilt earned bonus money.

Fines and Punishment: Both Mike Breeden and Bethe Correia missed weight and competed at this event, and both lost their bouts. This fight card is the first since UFC Fight Night 181 in 2020 where multiple fighters missed weight and all lost.

25 Minutes Wasted: Needing five full rounds to defeat Johnny Walker, Thiago Santos earned his first decision win since beating Kevin Holland in 2018. It marked the first time that Santos had ever needed more than three rounds to win a fight.

Put It on Next Week’s Lackluster Card: Following the clash of heads that resulted in a no contest between Kevin Holland and Kyle Daukaus, five fights in 2021 have been declared no contests inside the UFC cage on their respective nights. This total is more than any other year in company history.

Hybrid Judges Theory: Niko Price and Alex Oliveira went the distance in their three-round battle, with Price getting his hand raised at the end. “The Hybrid” earned only his second decision win of his career, and all three of his last bouts have gone to the scorecards. Before this stretch, Price had only gone to a decision once.

Jotcoasting: Fifteen minutes elapsed between Krzysztof Jotko and Misha Cirkunov, with Poland’s Jotko earning the split verdict nod. A whole 70% of Jotko’s wins have come by decision, and each of his last five appearances have ended in the hands of the judges.

Go Back to 205: For just the third time in his 22-fight career, Cirkunov went the distance. The three-round tilt with Jotko marked his first fight since his 2016 clash with Ion Cutelaba that went beyond the opening round, spanning seven appearances.

One Sister Down, One to Go: Putting Antonina Shevchenko away with strikes late into the second round, Casey O’Neill remained unbeaten as a professional in victory. All three of her UFC appearances have seen her come away with a stoppage win, already placing her with the fourth-most finishes in UFC women’s flyweight history.

Ain’t Old Age a Bethe: After her defeat to Karol Rosa, Bethe Correia retired in the cage. “Pitbull” leaves the sport behind after over nine years of professional competition. Correia ends her career with a sub-.500 UFC record of 5-6-1 but celebrates wins over the likes of Jessica Eye, Sijara Eubanks and Julie Kedzie. Correia fought for a UFC title in 2015, and fell short to Ronda Rousey at UFC 190.

What a Load of Mullarkey: Following a rough first round, Mullarkey put Devonte Smith away with strikes in the second stanza. The Aussie now posts a finish rate of 93%, and each of the last six wins for Mullarkey have come by knockout.

Do It Doug! Twenty of Silva de Andrade’s 27 career wins ended by knockout after his shellacking of Gaetano Pirrello. The knockout was the first for “D’Silva” since nailing Enrique Briones with a spinning back fist in 2016.

WMMA Stoppage: With one sharp elbow, Stephanie Egger forced referee Mark Smith to step in and stop her fight with Shanna Young. Egger has finished her foe in 83% of her wins, with her lone decision coming over “King” Reina Miura in 2019 – and Miura has never been finished in her career.

Not Just an Armbar: To start off the night, Perez hit a scarf hold armlock on Johnny Eduardo in the second round. While not the first scarf hold, it was officially the first combined with an armbar in organizational history.

Turbo Tap: This type of submission performed by “Turbo” Perez has been seen in other multiple cages and rings over the years, such as Bellator MMA, where it has occurred five times. Also, Montserrat Ruiz became the second woman in Invicta Fighting Championships to land one, doing so in 2020.

Never Say Never Again: Coming into UFC Fight Night 193, Walker had never competed beyond the third round (23 fights), Cirkunov had never lost on the scorecards (21 fights) and Shevchenko (12 fights) and Young (10 fights) had never been knocked out.

The Only Way to Fix It Is to Flush It All Away: Although multiple fighters including Carlos Condit and Rory MacDonald – the latter unwittingly – have walked out to Tool songs in the past, Jared Gordon is the first to select Joe Solecki.

Nice: A member of the Parana Vale Tudo team, Rosa emerged to the theme song of the camp, “PRVT e Hora de Vencer” by Faccao 288. Women that walk out to this track have won a recorded 69% of their fights.
