Robert Whittaker has the look of a man who’s ready to reclaim Ultimate Fighting Championship gold.

“The Reaper” offered a brilliant performance in the UFC on ESPN 22 headliner, sweeping the scorecards over five rounds against Kelvin Gastelum at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on Saturday night. Whittaker has won three consecutive bouts and has his sights set on a rematch with reigning 185-pound champion Israel Adesanya.

Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC on ESPN 22, with statistics courtesy of UFC Stats.com.

150: Significant strikes landed by Whittaker, a career high in 17 UFC appearances. His previous best of 128 came in a five-round victory over Yoel Romero at UFC 225. By comparison, Gastelum landed 62 significant strikes.

115: Significant head strikes for Whittaker. Gastelum, meanwhile, landed 42 significant strikes to the head.

.520: Significant striking accuracy for Whittaker, who landed 150 of 284 attempts. Gastelum was far less accurate, landing 62 of 209 attempts — a 29 percent clip.

4: Takedowns landed in seven attempts for Whittaker, also a UFC career high.

20: Career UFC triumphs for Andrei Arlovski, who outpointed Chase Sherman in the co-main event. That total ties the Belarusian with Michael Bisping, Jon Jones and Georges St. Pierre for fourth most in UFC history. Only Donald Cerrone (23), Demian Maia (22) and Jim Miller (21) have won more.

105: Significant strikes landed by Arlovski. By comparison, Sherman landed 88. Arlovski outlanded his opponent 32 to 21 in Round 2 and 46 to 34 in Round 3, while Sherman held a 33-to-27 edge in Round 1.

25: Significant leg strikes landed by Arlovski, who hindered Sherman’s movement with low kicks over the course of the heavyweight bout. Sherman, meanwhile, landed 17 significant leg strikes. Arlovski also held a 26-to-16 edge in body shots.

17: Consecutive bouts in which Arlovski has been a betting underdog in UFC competition, according to ESPN Stats & Info. That’s the longest such streak in UFC history.

1: Card in UFC history with four consecutive split decisions on the lineup. UFC on ESPN 22 became the first when Jessica Penne vs. Lupita Godinez, Alexander Romanov vs. Juan Espino, Luis Pena vs. Alex Munoz and Tracy Cortez vs. Justine Kish all received split verdicts. The figure also ranks as the second-most split decisions on a card in promotion history.

8: Takedowns landed in 24 attempts by Jacob Malkoun in a dominant unanimous decision win against Razak Alhassan at middleweight. Malkoun landed four of 11 takedowns in Round 1, two of four in Round 2 and two of nine in Round 3.

11:41: Total control time for Malkoun in the 15-minute bout. Alhassan, meanwhile, logged just two seconds of control time.

90: Significant strikes landed by Luis Pena in split-decision triumph over Alex Munoz at lightweight. “Violent Bob Ross” was at his best in Round 3, outlanding his opponent by a 47-to-33 count.

18: Significant ground strikes landed by Alexander Romanov in a technical split decision triumph over Juan Espino at heavyweight. By comparison, Espino landed just one significant strike on the ground. Romanov landed all 18 of his significant strikes in a second round in which he nearly finished Espino.

1,465: Days since Jessica Penne’s last Octagon appearance, a decison loss to Danielle Taylor at UFC Fight Night 108 on April 22, 2017. Penne endured an extended absence due to a lengthy USADA suspension before various injuries and withdrawals delayed her comeback. Penne enjoyed a successful return, taking a split verdict over the previously unbeaten Lupita Godinez at strawweight.

11: Unofficial media scorecards, of the 17 tracked by MMADecisions.com, that awarded the contest to Godinez. Judges Michael Bell and Derek Cleary saw things differently, giving 29-28 scorecards to Penne.

6: Submission triumphs in UFC competition for Gerald Meerschaert, a record for the middleweight division. By choking Bartosz Fabinski unconscious on Saturday, “GM3” passed Demian Maia, Rousimar Palhares, Thales Leites, and Antonio Carlos Junior for sole possession of first place.

24: Career submission wins in professional competition for Meerschaert. All told, the Roufusport member has finished 30 of his 32 pro wins by knockout, technical knockout or submission.

30: Significant strikes landed by Dakota Bush in the opening round of his lightweight contest with Austin Hubbard. Over the next two frames, Bush, who took the fight on a week’s notice, would land just 11 significant strikes in route to a unanimous decision defeat. All told, Hubbard outlanded his foe by a 67-to-41 count in significant strikes.

2: Knockdowns landed by Tony Gravely in a second-round technical knockout victory against Anthony Birchak at bantamweight. Gravely floored his opponent once in Round 1 and again in the second frame to get the finish. After facing striking deficits in his first two UFC appearances, Gravely also outlanded Birchak by a 39-to-18 margin in significant strikes.
