“Drago” withstood some heavyweight fire from Rozenstruik in the UFC Fight Night 207 main event before stopping his Surinamese opponent with a barrage of power punches 2:12 into the opening round on Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on Saturday. With the win, Volkov avoided the second two-fight losing streak of his professional career while earning his 23rd KO/TKO victory in the process. Rozenstruik, meanwhile, has lost three of his last four Octagon appearances.
Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC Fight Night 207, with
statistics courtesy of UFCStats.com.
21: Significant strikes landed by Volkov in the abbreviated heavyweight bout. By comparison, Rozenstruik landed six. Volkov connected at a 56 percent success rate, while Rozenstruik landed just 33 percent of his attempts.
5: Consecutive UFC featherweight wins for Movsar Evloev, the fourth-longest streak in the division behind Alexander Volkanovski (nine), Arnold Allen (nine) and Bryce Mitchell (six). Evloev, who was dominant in a unanimous decision win over Dan Ige, has won six straight UFC bouts overall, but one of those victories occurred at a 150-pound catchweight against Nik Lentz.
144: Total strikes landed by Evloev. By comparison, Ige landed 47. Evloev also held a 68-to-42 edge in significant strikes landed.
9: Takedowns landed in 16 attempts for Evloev — including five in the final frame. Evloev logged 6:47 of control time and has now landed nine takedowns in back-to-back UFC appearances.
3: Combined knockdowns for Lucas Almeida (two) and Michael Trizano (one) in their entertaining featherweight scrap. The last of those from Almeida set the stage for a stoppage 55 seconds into Round 3.
44: Significant strikes by which Almeida outlanded Trizano.
2: Brabo choke victories by women in UFC history, after Karine Silva accomplished the feat with a second-round submission of Poliana Botelho in a flyweight encounter. The only other woman to win via brabo choke was Tatiana Suarez, who tapped Amanda Bobby Brundage with the maneuver at “The Ultimate Fighter 23” finale.
1:01: Time of Ode Osbourne’s first-round technical knockout victory against Zarrukh Adashev, making it the sixth-fastest KO/TKO stoppage in the history of the UFC’s flyweight division.
3: Knockdowns suffered by Adashev in four UFC appearances, for a knockdown rate of 1.43 suffered per 15 minutes.
14: KO/TKO wins from the crucifix position in UFC history. Menifield earned the latest such victory when he stopped Askar Mozharov with elbows from the mounted crucifix for a stoppage at the 4:40 mark of Round 1 in their light heavyweight tilt.
16: Significant ground strikes landed by Menifield. Mozharov failed to land a significant strike on the ground and landed just two overall in the fight.
2,940: Days since Karolina Kowalkiewicz’s last finish of any kind in professional MMA, a first-round armbar of Jasminka Cive at KSW 27 on May 17, 2014. After seven decision wins since then, the former strawweight title challenger tapped out Felice Herrig with a rear-naked choke 4:01 into the second round of their preliminary clash.
10:25: Total control time for Damon Jackson — much of that attached to his opponent’s back — in a unanimous decision triumph over newcomer Dan Argueta at featherweight. Jackson also landed two of four takedowns, attempted one submission and executed one reversal in the fight.
103: Total strikes landed by Argueta, many of which landed with Jackson on his back. By comparison, Jackson landed 47 total strikes.
138: Difference in significant strikes absorbed by Benoit St. Denis in his UFC debut against Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos (149) and in his sophomore Octagon appearance against Niklas Stolze (11). The results were also better, as St. Denis submitted Stolze with a rear-naked choke 1:32 into the second round after losing a lopsided decision to dos Santos.
12: Unofficial media scorecards, of the 13 tracked by MMADecisions.com, that awarded the flyweight clash between Jeff Molina and Zhalgas Zhumagulov to Zhumgaulov. Judges Sal D’Amato (29-28) and Anthony Maness (30-27) saw the fight differently, resulting in a split-decision triumph for Molina.
129: Total strikes landed by Molina. Zhumagulov, meanwhile, landed 68. Molina also successfully stuffed 11 of his foe’s 13 takedown attempts.
13:00: Control time for Rinat Fakretdinov in a three-round verdict over Andreas Michailidis at welterweight. Fakkretdinov outlanded his foe by a 106-to-48 count in total strikes and was successful on five of 10 takedowns.
