A highlight-reel knockout seems like a distinct possibility based on the collective history of Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight contenders Thiago Santos and Johnny Walker—the two combatants in the UFC Fight Night 193 main event on Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

Santos enters the cage on a career-worst three-fight losing streak. The American Top Team rep last appeared at UFC 259, where he dropped a unanimous decision to Aleksandar Rakic on March 6. Walker, meanwhile, has rattled off 10 wins across his past 12 outings. He last competed on Sept. 19, 2020, when he took out Ryan Spann with elbows and punches in the first round of their UFC Fight Night 178 affair.

As Santos and Walker make final preparations for their headlining assignment, a look at some of the numbers that have accompanied them to this point:

37: Years of age for Santos, who was born in Rio de Janeiro on Jan. 7, 1984.

15: Santos victories by knockout or technical knockout, accounting for 71% of his career total (21). His list of UFC victims: Jan Blachowicz, Jimi Manuwa, Eryk Anders, Anthony Smith, Jack Hermansson, Gerald Meerschaert, Jack Marshman, Nate Marquardt, Steve Bosse, Andy Enz and Ronny Markes. Santos owns one other victory by submission—he dispatched Eneas Souza with a rear-naked choke at a Watch Out Combat Show event in 2011—and five more by decision.

8: First-round finishes on the Santos resume, but only two of them carry the sub-minute designation. He put away Markes with a body kick and follow-up punches in 52 seconds at UFC Fight Night 38 on March 23, 2014 and knocked out Bosse with a head kick in 29 seconds at UFC Fight Night 70 on June 27, 2015.

206: Combined wins between the nine men—Rakic, Glover Teixeira, Jon Jones, David Branch, Eric Spicely, Gegard Mousasi, Uriah Hall, Cezar Ferreira and Vicente Luque—who have defeated Santos. They sport a cumulative record of 206-59-3 (.769).

4: Countries in which Santos has fought as a mixed martial artist. He has gone 13-3 in his native Brazil, 5-6 in the United States, 2-0 in Canada and 1-0 in the Czech Republic.

29: Years of age for Walker, who was born on March 30, 1992 in Belford Roxo, Brazil.

15: Walker wins by knockout or technical knockout, accounting for 83% of his career total (18). His list of UFC victims: Spann, Misha Cirkunov, Justin Ledet and Khalil Rountree. Walker owns two other wins by submission and one more by decision.

6: Sub-minute stoppage victories on the Walker ledger, two of which have taken place inside the Octagon. He buried Ledet with a spinning backfist and follow-up punches 15 seconds into their UFC Fight Night 144 pairing on Feb. 2, 2019 and cut down Cirkunov with a flying knee and follow-up punches 38 seconds into their UFC 235 encounter on March 2, 2019.

1.99: Knockdowns landed by Walker per 15 minutes of UFC competition, placing him third on the promotion’s all-time list at 205 pounds. Only Houston Alexander (4.39) and Luiz Cane (2.32) have higher rates.

.750: Cumulative winning percentage between the five men—Nikita Krylov, Corey Anderson, Henrique Silva Lopes, Klidson Abreu and Wagner Prado—who have beaten Walker. They boast a combined record pf 78-25-1. Advertisement
