The MMA Lab prospect will take his swings at promotional newcomer Kris Moutinho in a UFC 264 bantamweight showcase on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Despite injuries, layoffs and an ill-timed defeat to Marlon Vera, O’Malley maintains his position as one of the sport’s most promising young fighters. “Sugar Sean” rebounded from his first professional setback in March, when he knocked out Thomas Almeida in the third round of their UFC 260 pairing. Moutinho, meanwhile, makes his Octagon debut as a short-notice replacement for Louis Smolka. He last appeared under the Cage Fury Fighting Championships banner on May 28, when he submitted Andrew Salas with a third-round arm-triangle choke.

As O’Malley and Moutinho move toward their three-round encounter at 135 pounds, a look at some of the numbers that have accompanied them to this point:

26: Years of age for O’Malley, who was born in Helena, Montana, on Oct. 24, 1994. “Pulp Fiction,” “The Specialist,” “Love Affair,” “The Puppet Masters” and “The River Wild” were the Top 5 movies at the domestic box office at the time.

9: O’Malley wins by knockout or technical knockout, accounting for 69% of his career total (13). His list of UFC victims: Almeida, Eddie Wineland and Jose Alberto Quinonez. O’Malley owns one other win by submission and three more by decision.

8: First-round finishes on the O’Malley resume. He put away Josh Reyes with punches 93 seconds into his professional debut at Intense Fighting Championship 17 on March 6, 2015. It remains the fastest finish of O’Malley’s 14-fight career.

141: Significant strikes landed by O’Malley in his unanimous decision over Terrion Ware at “The Ultimate Fighter 26” Finale in December 2017. In no other fight has he landed more than 86 such strikes.

5: Promotions in which O’Malley has competed as a mixed martial artist. He has gone 5-1 in the UFC, 5-0 in Intense Fighting Championship, 1-0 in Extreme Beatdown, 1-0 in Legacy Fighting Alliance and 1-0 in Dana White’s Contender Series.

28: Years of age for Moutinho, who was born in Milford, Massachusetts, on Aug. 9, 1992. Boyz II Men’s “End of the Road,” TLC’s “Baby-Baby-Baby,” Madonna’s “This Used To Be My Playground,” Sir Mix-A-Lot’s “Baby Got Back” and Guns N’ Roses’ “November Rain” were the Top 5 songs on Billboard’s Hot 100 list at the time.

3: Moutinho victories by knockout or technical knockout, accounting for 33% of his career total (nine). His list of victims: Ashiek Ajim, Alfred Jones and Jason Rine. Moutinho holds one other victory by submission and five more by decision.

10: Seconds needed for Moutinho to take out Rine with a head kick and knee at CES MMA 41 on Jan. 21, 2017. Having occurred in his third professional assignment, it remains the fastest finish of his 13-fight career.

.640: Cumulative winning percentage between the four men—Johnny Campbell, Tony Gravely, David Garcia and Brandon Seyler—who have defeated Moutinho. They sport a combined record of 55-29-2.

2: Submission losses on the Moutinho resume. He tapped to guillotine chokes from Seyler and Garcia in consecutive 2017 appearances. Seyler prompted his surrender in 3:08 at CES MMA 45, while Gracie forced him to capitulate in 3:07 at CES MMA 47. Advertisement
