The most difficult part of the climb awaits Gilbert Burns, even as the summit comes into view.

“Durinho” will challenge former Sanford MMA teammate Kamaru Usman for the undisputed Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight crown in the UFC 258 main event this Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. A four-time Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion who spent much of his career competing at 155 pounds, Burns has been nothing short of a revelation since he made the move to the welterweight division. Usman, meanwhile, has rattled off 16 consecutive victories—12 of them in the UFC—and emerged as one of the most dominant fighters in the sport.

As Burns and Usman head toward their hotly anticipated confrontation, a look at some of the numbers that have accompanied them to this point:

33: Years of age for Usman, who was born on May 11, 1987 in Auchi, Nigeria—a city of some 150,000 people in the southwest quadrant of the African nation.

47: Takedowns completed by Usman as a UFC welterweight, placing him seventh on the promotion’s all-time list at 170 pounds. He trails Georges St. Pierre (87), Johny Hendricks (61), Colby Covington (61), Jon Fitch (53), Karo Parisyan (53) and Neil Magny (50) in the category.

3: Fights in which Usman has eclipsed the 100-significant-strikes-landed plateau since joining the UFC roster in 2015. He connected for 130 of them in a unanimous decision over Rafael dos Anjos in “The Ultimate Fighter 28” Finale main event on Nov. 30, 2018, 141 of them in a unanimous decision over Tyron Woodley in the UFC 235 co-headliner on March 2, 2019 and 175 of them in a fifth-round technical knockout of the aforementioned Covington in the UFC 245 main event on Dec. 14, 2019.

715: Days spent by Usman as undisputed UFC welterweight champion. Only St. Pierre (2,064 days), Pat Miletich (931 days), Matt Hughes (820 days and 757 days) and Woodley (945 days) have enjoyed longer single title reigns at 170 pounds.

1: Loss on the Usman resume. He submitted to a rear-naked choke from Jose Caceres at a Championship Fighting Alliance event in May 2013. Caceres was 3-3 at the time. 34: Years of age for Burns, who was born on July 20, 1986 in Niteroi, Brazil, a booming city of more than 500,000 people on the east coast of the South American country.

10: First-round stoppage victories to Burns’ credit, accounting for 53% of his professional total (19). Included among them: a 62-second technical knockout of Paulo Teixeira on May 2, 2014. It remains the fastest finish of the Brazilian’s 22-fight career.

.787: Cumulative winning percentage between the three men—Rashid Magomedov, Michel Prazeres and Dan Hooker—who have managed to defeat Burns. They own a combined record of 70-18-1.

5: Countries in which Burns has competed as a mixed martial artist. He has gone 9-2 in his native Brazil, 7-1 in the United States, 1-0 in Canada, 1-0 in Uruguay and 1-0 in Denmark.
