Sherdog’s Top 10: Defunct Promotions
Top 10
MMA is not a sport given to longevity in the organizations that produce individual events. Most promotions are lucky to last for more than a show or two and are ecstatic to secure a television deal or some form of distribution. Even then, sticking around for more than a year or so is a massive accomplishment in a crowded space with an almost infinite number of variables that contribute to success, any one of which could lead to the promotion being shuttered overnight.
Despite those obstacles, many organizations have managed to not only survive but also thrive. The latest installment in the Sherdog Top 10 series takes a look at our favorite promotions that eventually went belly-up. The staff panel considered the organization’s historical impact, the quality of fights on offer, the level of talent, sheer spectacle and anything else that came to mind. How does your list stack up?
