Smith Edges Galarza in PBC on Bounce Main Event
Former world champion Ishe Smith did just enough over the course of
10 rounds to edge Frank Galarza in front of a hometown crowd at the
Chelsea in the Cosmopolitan Las Vegas. The junior middleweight
affair headlined the latest PBC on Bounce TV event, which featured
an assortment of rising prospects and solid contenders.
Smith (29-8, 12 KOs) knocked Galarza down at the end of the second but he couldn’t put him away. From there, it was a tactical boxing match that saw Smith landing the cleaner punches and using his footwork and head movement to steal the close rounds. In the end, Galarza (17-2-2, 11 KOs) came up short on the cards as two of the three judges favored “Sugar Shay” with scores of 96-93 and 95-94. The third judge had it 95-95, allowing Smith, who once held the IBF 154-pound title, to win via majority decision.
Justin DeLoach (16-1, 8 KOs) dominated fellow junior middleweight Domonique Dolton (17-1-1, 9 KOs) over 10 rounds to win a unanimous decision. He won via tallies of 99-91, 98-92 and 96-94.
In the other two main card bouts, super bantamweight contender Jose Cayetano (20-4, 9 KOs) also won a 10-round unanimous nod as he bested Alexis Santiago (21-4-1, 8 KOs) thanks to scores of 97-93 and 96-94 (twice) and J’Leon Love (23-1, 13 KOs) opened the telecast by knocking out Dashon Johnson (21-20-3, 6 KOs) in the sixth.
