Orozco to Fight Gibson on Golden Boy Promotions on ESPN Card April 1
Golden Boy promotions announced this week that Antonio Orozco will
headline against KeAndre Gibson at the Chelsea inside the
Cosmopolitan Las Vegas on April 1. The action will be televised
live on ESPN Deportes at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT, followed by a
broadcast on ESPN2 at 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT.
Orozco (25-0, 16 KOs) will face the toughest test of his young career against fellow unbeaten Gibson (16-0-1, 7 KOs) in a pivotal super lightweight encounter. The bout is scheduled for 10 rounds and if successful, Orozsco, who is the No. 1 contender for the WBC 140-pound title, could land a shot at the championship.
“This 50/50 main event will help determine the future of the super lightweight division,” said Oscar De La Hoya, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. “I expect the winner of this fight will be positioned for world championship titles in the near-future and the loser will find himself back in the pack of the division. Everything is on the line for both of these fighters.”
The undercard will be rounded out by Mercito Gesta (29-1-2, 16 KOs) taking on Gilberto Gonzalez (26-3, 22 KOs) in the 10-round co-feature while highly-touted prospects Joet Gonzalez (15-0, 7 KOs), Emilio Sanchez (13-0, 8 KOs) and Edgar Valerio (9-0, 5 KOs) will fight on the card, though no opponent for either of them have been announced.
