Brent Primus Targeting Jake Shields at SUG 14

Onetime Bellator MMA lightweight champion Brent Primus was originally booked opposite “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 15 winner Michael Chiesa this Sunday at Submission Underground 14. However, due to events beyond his control, he will instead face former two-division Strikeforce titleholder Jake Shields. Some may view Shields, now 41, as less than a threat when compared to the younger Chiesa, but Primus believes otherwise.

“I feel like Jake is a more technical grappler,” Primus told Sherdog.com. “Yeah, definitely better. Nothing against Chiesa. He’s a tough dude, for sure, but I just think [that] technically, Jake Shields is definitely a top [grappling] competitor. He’s going to be a tough match. I’m excited for the test.”

In this exclusive interview, Primus discussed adjusting to Submission Underground rules, revealed when he may compete again under the Bellator banner and gave his thoughts on the Ultimate Fighting Championship moving forward with events during the COVID-19 pandemic.
