Beatdown: Girtz, Moret, 'Russian Hip Show' Commentator Cyrus Fees
TJ De Santis and Jeff Sherwood returned to the Sherdog Radio Network Monday for another edition of “Beatdown.” Joining them were MMA fighters Dan Moret, Brandon Girtz, and commentator and ring announcer Cyrus Fees.
Bellator fighter Brandon Girtz joined the show to chat about his upcoming Bellator fight with Derek Campos on March 21st. Girtz will be facing Campos in the opening round of Bellator’s season 10 lightweight tournament. The matchup will mark the second time the Minnesotan has faced “The Stallion.” The previous contest went the distance with all three judges siding with Campos. Brandon joined TJ and Jeff to talk about the rematch, the rigors of preparing for a tournament, and how he sizes up the field of competition.
Undefeated mixed martial artist Dan Moret returns to action this Friday night for RFA 13 in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Greg Nelson trained fighter is scheduled to square off against fellow unbeaten Luke Sanders. Moret chats about his preparation for the fight, fighting on television so early in his MMA career, and what his goals are in 2014.
AXS TV hopes to make waves in mixed martial arts when they premiere Russia’s “Hip Show: Arena Combat” to a North American audience for the first time on Friday, March 14th. Commentator Cyrus Fees joined “Beatdown” to chat about the new MMA show which features teams of two competing at the same time in an obstacle laden environment. Fees breaks down the shows rules, format, and whether or not this is sport or spectacle. Also, Fees explains how this event can even pit two-on-one competition.
De Santis and Sherwood recap the UFC’s Fight Night card which saw Dong Hyun Kim knock out John Hathaway, Bellator victories for Quinton Jackson and “King” Muhamed Lawal, and take a look at this weekend’s fight cards upcoming.
