Faber Set To Faced Uematsu at GC
Jun 28, 2006
Gladiator Challenge makes its triumphant debut in Sacramento
Saturday, July 1st at the Memorial Auditorium with MADNESS AT THE
MEMORIAL. Gladiator Challenge’s first show sanctioned by the
California State Athletic Commission promises to be the fight card
of the year, with nothing but dynamite matchups. 30 of the most
talented fighters from northern California and around the world
will step into the cage to show why Gladiator Challenge is Simply
the Best in Mixed Martial Arts.
In the main event, the California Kid, Urijah Faber (Pictures), takes on Japan’s Naoya Uematsu (Pictures) for the recently vacated Gladiator Challenge World Bantamweight Championship. Faber, the three time defending King of the Cage World Bantamweight Champion, returns to Gladiator Challenge to claim another world title belt. Faber is recognized as one of the best pound for pound athletes in the world, recognition he has gained with his punishing, unrelenting, ground and pound attack and wildly unorthodox striking skills. Uematsu is one of Japan’s top bantamweight fighters, with wins over UFC veterans Caol Uno (Pictures) and Joey Gilbert. Uematsu makes his debut in the United States, and has no intention of returning home with a loss.
Also in the main event, five time defending Gladiator Challenge
World Welterweight Champion James ‘the Educator’ Fanshier faces
Brian ‘Mr Unbreakable’ Warren. Team X’s Fanshier comes off a
knockout victory on April 8th at Gladiator Challenge: FACE OFF. His
mix of kickboxing high kicks and wrestling slams has proven
difficult for opponents to stand against, and coupled with his
inventive techniques in the cage, Fanshier has become one of the
most feared and entertaining fighters in northern California.
Warren, the King of the Cage #3 Welterweight contender, is coming
off a 4 win streak, including a win by TKO at King of the Cage:
FINAL CONFLICT in December of last year. These two kickboxing
experts promise to put on a show to rival the fireworks of the 4th
of July! The winner will not only be the Gladiator Challenge
Welterweight World Champion, but will be directly in line for a
shot at the King of the Cage World Welterweight Title.
In more title bout action, Gladiator Challenge World Middleweight Champion Jaime ‘el Cucui’ Jara rematches #1 contender Dustin ‘the Rooster’ Arden. Jara fights out of Sacramento’s Team X, and is known for his brutal ground and pound, as well as his newly improved jujitsu skills. Arden, central California’s premier fighter, is known for his brawling fighting style and his unbreakable, ‘never say die’ spirit. When these two met last November, Jara won by TKO in the first round. Arden felt the match was stopped prematurely, and has redoubled his training to show that the result of the first match was a fluke. Jara, now fighting in his own backyard, is training just as hard to prove without a doubt that he is the rightful Middleweight World Champion. Expect nonstop action in this bad blood rematch for the Gladiator Challenge World Middleweight Championship.
Also on the line is the Gladiator Challenge World Heavyweight Championship. Bo ‘Redrum’ Cantrell defends his title for the third time, this time against Arizona warrior Victor Vincelette. Cantrell, the hardest hitter in mixed martial arts, comes off a twelve second knockout win in King of the Cage: HEAVY HITTERS on April 2nd over #10 contender Brian ‘the Natural Born Killer’ Sesma. Vincelette, winner of several underground tournaments in the southwest, steps up in competition, recently making his King of the Cage debut on May 13th at Apache Gold Casino in Globe, AZ. He now travels to California in search of his first world title. Neither of these devastating heavyweights is afraid to stand and trade. Only one man will be left standing to claim the Gladiator Challenge World Heavyweight Championship.
Don’t miss the best fight card ever to come to Sacramento! Doors open at 5:30pm and fights start at 7pm on Saturday, July 1st at the Memorial Auditorium in downtown Sacramento, CA. Tickets sell fast, so call early at 1-800-225-2277!
