EVANGELISTA, BUCIA AND HONEYCUTT HIGHLIGHT UPC 15 IN FRESNO
May 5, 2013 Comments
(PRESS RELEASE) -- Fresno, CA. is buzzing with excitement as
professional MMA returns May 11 with UPC 15. The Sierra Athletic
Club will once again be the site for the UPC with Strikeforce
Veterans, Billy
Evangelista taking on Dragon House Champion Zak Bucia in a
main event that will be loaded with action.
"We are thrilled to be back in Fresno after our sold out UPC event in Palm Springs. This will be out first show in 2013 in Fresno so we want it to be the best UPC we have ever done and that is why we jumped at the chance to sign Billy Evangelista.", says UPC owner & promoter, Jason Weiner. " Billy is a local athlete who has competed in Strikeforce the past 5 years and has been a Main Event on Showtime. Zak represents Dragon House and is a real tough fighter!"
The excitement doesn't stop with the main event as UPC fighter
Chris
Honeycutt will be making his 2nd appearance in the world of
mixed martial arts. The 2 time All American from Edinboro is
considered one of the top prospects in the country an will look to
improve to 2-0. "Chris is one of those special athletes that truly
has the potential to go all the way in this sport, we are thrilled
to have him part of the UPC."
Evangelista is a Fresno native and has built a reputation for giving the fans a fight of the night performance every time he steps in the cage. He lost his last fight to UFC fighter KJ Noons in a standup war that left the entire arena standing in applause. Being snubbed by the UFC, Evangelista will look to climb his way back to the big leagues against Dragon House Champion Zak Bucia. Bucia who has won 4 in a row has the same goals as Evangelista. His last 4 fights have not made it past the 2nd round with 2 TKO and 2 submissions. "Zak's ability to hurt you in so many different ways makes him so dangerous, Evangelista will have his hands full at UPC 15."
Local star Tim Eastom looks to stay undefeated as he takes on Team Stockton fighter Tony Rios. Eastom is the understudy of former UFC, Strikeforce and WEC fighter Jason Von Flu and brings the same hard nose mentality to the cage. Dethrone Base Camp Nick Bustamante will be making his professional debut as he take on Augie Garcia from Fearless Fighters Gym. Bustamante, who trains with Honeycutt, had a stellar amateur career with 6 wins & a 2nd pace finish in the California State Tournament while Garcia has a reputation of taking the fight to his opponent's. Thrive MMA standout Paul Ruiz will look to improve his 3 fight winning streak and record to 6-1, but standing in his way is the tough Paul Webb. The Team Quest product is undefeated at 135 with all of his loses coming at higher weights and very explosive at 135 as he finished his last opponent in under :45 seconds.
"Everything that we do different than the competition will be showcased at UPC 15. Our venue is outstanding, the atmosphere and excitement in the air will get everyone involved in the show. The cherry on top is a fight card loaded with the most exciting athletes in Central California and some of the future stars of MMA. The UPC Experience is coming home."
