Rising featherweight contender Charles Oliveira pocketed an extra $100,000 in bonus money for his sensational win over Nik Lentz on Saturday at UFC Fight Night “Condit vs. Alves”.
Oliveira and Lentz’s scrap was dubbed “Fight of the Night” by the promotion, earning both fighters checks of $50,000. Oliveira also earned a “Performance of the Night” bonus worth an additional $50,000. The Fox Sports 1-televised event took place at Goiania Arena in Goiania, Brazil.
In a rematch four years in the making, Oliveira and Lentz tore into one another from the start. They traded hellacious bombs, latched on several submission attempts and took as much as they gave. In all, it was easily the best fight of the card. Oliveira was a bit hungrier in the duel, as his gas tank seemed endless. Lentz was all over his lanky opponent, but in the end, “The Carny” succumbed to a perfect guillotine after a mad scramble in the third round.
The night’s other “Performance” bonus went to Rony Mariano Bezerra, who highlighted the undercard with a first-round finish of Damon Jackson. “Rony Jason” secured an electrifying triangle choke from mount, readjusted and forced Jackson to tap out at the 3:31 mark of their featherweight duel. The win -- Bezerra’s fifth inside the Octagon -- earned the Brazilian an extra $50,000.
