As expected, lightweight submission specialist Ryan Couture will compete at Strikeforce Challengers 14, which takes place Feb. 18 at the Cedar Park Center in the Austin suburb of Cedar Park, Texas.
Couture’s adversary for the event remains a mystery, though sources close to the event informed Sherdog.com on Tuesday that an opponent would be announced soon. The event’s Showtime-televised main card will be headlined by a clash of dynamic lightweights Lyle Beerbohm and Pat Healy.
The son of UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture, 28-year-old Ryan is still in his fighting infancy. After racking up a 5-1-1 amateur record competing on regional shows such as Oregon’s SportFight, Couture debuted professionally for Strikeforce at “Challengers 10” in August. There, he submitted Lucas Stark with a slick triangle choke just 75 seconds into the fight.
Couture was scheduled to make his sophomore outing in November at “Challengers 12” against Juan Zapata, but the Xtreme Couture product contracted a staph infection and was forced to withdraw from the contest.
Sherdog.com will report any updates on Couture's opponent as they become available.
