NAC Meets with Conor McGregor, Puts Request for Disciplinary Rehearing on March Agenda

The Nevada Athletic Commission will begin the process of re-evaluating the disciplinary action taken against Conor McGregor for his part in a bottle throwing incident prior to UFC 202 last year.

McGregor met with NAC Chairman Anthony Marnell and Executive Director Bob Bennett in Las Vegas on Tuesday regarding a potential rehearing of the UFC lightweight champion’s case from last August. According to a statement from Bennett, Marnell agreed to place the request for the rehearing on the commission’s March 22 agenda following “a very cordial and productive meeting” with McGregor.

The request for the rehearing will now be voted on by the commission members at the March 22 meeting. If passed, any changes to the disciplinary order would then likely be implemented at a future hearing.

McGregor was fined $75,000 and ordered to produce an anti-bullying public service announcement -- with a production value at a minimum of $75,000 -- by the NAC for his part in a bottle-throwing incident during a pre-fight press conference in Las Vegas on Aug. 17, 2016. He was also ordered to perform 50 hours of community service. During the melee, McGregor hurled water bottles and a Monster energy drink can at Nate Diaz after Diaz and his team left the dais early. A security guard was reportedly injured as both sides threw objects at each other.

McGregor, who made a disclosed $3 million purse for his victory over Diaz at UFC 202, vowed to never fight in Nevada again and implied that the NAC would have difficulty collecting the fine. In December, McGregor petitioned for a judicial review of the punishment in Clark County (Nev.) court, naming Bennett and the NAC as respondents.

Recently, rumors of a proposed boxing match between McGregor and Mayweather have gained momentum. For McGregor to receive a boxing license in Nevada, which is where Mayweather would likely want to fight, the Irishman would have to resolve any disciplinary matters with the NAC.
