When Joe Ellenberger signed with UFC for a second time in January, it seemed unlikely that it would be an additional six months before Jake Ellenberger’s younger brother would finally set foot inside the Octagon.
Following what amounts to five scheduled bouts, the 29-year-old is now set to face Resurrection Fighting Alliance standout James Moontasri at UFC Fight Night “Swanson vs. Stephens” on June 28 at the AT&T Center in San Antonio.

Ellenberger hasn’t fought since 2012 and has only lost once in his 15-fight career. “Excalibur” was originally scheduled to fight Yancy Medeiros at UFC 172 but that fight was scratched due to injury. Vagner Rocha stepped in on short notice, but then he too was forced to withdraw.
Frank Trevino, Johnny Case and Bryan Barberena were all targeted as potential opponents for Ellenberger in San Antonio before falling through for various reasons.
Moontasri has produced three highlight-reel finishes during his RFA tenure. The Black House MMA product is a two-time Tae Kwon Do national champion and has earned a silver medal at the 2007 Pan Am Games.
