Clementi Replaces Davis, Draws Titan FC Assignment
Brian Knapp Jan 20, 2011
UFC veteran Rich
Clementi (Pictured) will lock horns with Aaron
Derrow in a featured welterweight tilt at Titan Fighting
Championship 16 on Jan. 28 at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan.
Clementi replaces World Extreme Cagefighting alum L.C. Davis,
who withdrew from the event with an injury.
“I was heartbroken to hear about L.C.’s injury because I know how much it meant to him to be able to come back to Kansas City and compete in front of his friends and family,” Titan Fighting CEO Joe Kelly said in a release. “However, we really feel good about being able to secure a fighter the stature of Rich Clementi on such short notice.”
Derrow was originally slated to meet Alonzo
Martinez in a lightweight tilt. Titan officials are currently
exploring options for a replacement opponent to fight Martinez.
Clementi has won five of his past seven bouts. The Slidell, La.-based 34-year-old last appeared at Cage Wars “Validation” in December, when he submitted Felipe Enomoto with a third-round armbar at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland. A gifted grappler, Clementi has secured more than half (23) of his 39 career victories by submission. Wins over former International Fight League lightweight champion Ryan Schultz, Jackson’s Mixed Martial Arts standout Melvin Guillard and Team Kaobon’s Terry Etim highlight his resume, which spans more than a decade.
Derrow will carry a two-fight winning streak into the match. He has not fought since appearing under the Tommy Tran Promotions banner in December, when he needed just 18 seconds to blast through George Little.
A heavyweight battle pairing two-time UFC champion Tim Sylvia and “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 10 alum Abe Wagner will headline TFC 16, which will air live on HDNet. Additional bouts will pit Drew McFedries against Gary Tapasua and Jason High against Rudy Bears.
