Cage Rage 7 - Weigh In
Pedro Wrobel Jul 11, 2004
Both Mark Weir and Jorge Rivera easily made weight
for the main event of Cage Rage 7. Weir weighed in at a lean,
ripped 83.6 kg (184.3 lbs) whilst Rivera tipped the scales at a
muscular 83.9 kg (185 lbs). Both fighters seemed ready to go, with
Mark Weir coming across as enthusiastic and energetic, and Rivera
exuding a quiet confidence.
The co-main event started life as an intriguing battle between Renato "Babalu" Sobral and Frenchman Cyrille Diabate, but this was derailed when Diabate pulled out. Michael "The Count" Bisping stepped up on short notice to face Babalu but, yet again, the fates conspired against them. Babalu pulled out due to a knee injury sustained in training, which means that, with a mere week to prepare, Mark "The Beast" Epstein is going to be putting his Cage Rage Light Heavyweight title on the line against Bisping. Both fighters looked to be in good shape, with Bisping weighing in at 92.2 kg (203.3 lbs) and Epstein at 90 kg (198.4).
In another anticipated match-up, the always-entertaining Jean Silva
puts his lightweight title on the line against a dangerous Ollie
Ellis. Silva looked ripped at 70.1 kg (154.5 lbs) and Ellis looked
pumped at 69.9 kg (154.1 lbs).
Matt Ewin faces dangerous striker Jess Liaudin in a middleweight battle between England and France. Ewin weighed in at 83.3 kg (183.6 lbs), with Liaudin lighter at 80.9 kg (178.4 lbs).
In an all-French affair, Jean-Francoise Lenogue and Damien Riccio battle it out for the right to be known as France's top middleweight. Lenogue weighed in at 83.2 kg (183.4 lbs) whilst Riccio was almost 10 lbs lighter at 79 kg (174.2 lbs).
In a classic "grappler vs striker" bout, former boxer Paul "Hands of Stone" Jenkins gives up his Middleweight title and drops a weight class in order to challenge BJJ champion Ronaldo "The Choke" Campos for his Welterweight belt, in a rematch of their battle at Extreme Brawl 6. Surprisingly, Jenkins was lighter than Campos, with the pair of them weighing in at 75.5 kg (166.4 lbs) and 76.5 kg (168.7 lbs) respectively.
In a match that will decide the #1 contender for the Lightweight title currently held by Jean Silva, Sammy Schiavo squares off against a tough Robbie Olivier. Both fighters weighed in at 70.3 kg (155 lbs).
Elite Fighting System's Rick Andrews replaced his injured team-mate, Wayne Dart, in order to face Jeremy "Bad Boy" Bailey in a welterweight clash. Andrews weighed in at 73.5 kg (162 lbs), whilst Bailey tipped the scales at 77.8 kg (171.5 lbs).
Due to injuries to both Sol Gilbert and Dexter Casey, striker Paul "Semtex" Daley and muay-thai specialist Xavier "Professor X" Foupa Pokam face each other in a match that is sure to end with a knock out. Foupa Pokam weighed in at 83.5 kg (184.1 lbs) with Daley at 82.5 kg (181.9 lbs).
In an unfortunate turn of events, Dave Roache was involved in a car accident on his way to the weigh in. He is okay but early reports are that he has glass lodged above his eye and, of course, cannot compete. His late, late replacement is Philly San, who weighed in at 69.5 kg (153.2 lbs) against Dave Elliot's 68.7 kg (151.5 lbs).
We wish Dave Roache all the best in his recovery from this most untimely set-back.

In another battle between the English and the French, two of
Europe's top featherweights square off. Emmanuel Fernandez is
undefeated in four pro MMA bouts, winning all of them with the same
move - a triangle choke. Leigh Remedios is coming off two tough
losses, and will be looking to avenge the loss suffered by his
training partner, Ian Butlin, at the hands of Fernandez. Both
fighters made weight, both weighing in at 65.8 kg (145 lbs).
