When deputies arrived at the property, East, 30, was pronounced dead. His girlfriend, who was not identified, is in stable condition at an Albuquerque, N.M., hospital. The investigation is currently active.
It’s not the first time East has been involved in a domestic violence incident. In 2012, he was arrested on domestic violence charges after an ex-girlfriend accused him of assaulting her while on a “cocaine binge.” He was indicted on charges of kidnapping, aggravated burglary, aggravated battery, and bribery of a witness.
East, the younger brother of former UFC talent Cody East, went 15-6 with one no contest over the course of a professional MMA career that began in 2009. He spent time at both FIT-NHB and Jackson-Wink in Albuquerque, and was briefly a training partner of Jon Jones. He retired following a first-round TKO loss to Brian Heden at Legacy Fighting Championship 60 on Oct. 7, 2016.
