2 Title Fights, UFC Veterans Anchor MFC 29 Lineup
Brian Knapp Apr 4, 2011
Maximum Fighting Championship welterweight titleholder Douglas
Lima will defend his crown against Terry Martin
in the MFC 29 “Conquer” headliner on Friday at The Colosseum at
Caesars Windsor in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. A 10-fight lineup has
been finalized for the event, which will air live on HDNet.
Lima (Pictured), who has emerged as one of the sport’s top prospects at 170 pounds, last appeared at MFC 27 in November, when he submitted Jesse Juarez with a third-round triangle-armbar combination at the River Cree Resort and Casino in Enoch, Alberta, Canada. The 23-year-old Atlanta-based American Top Team representative will carry a five-fight winning streak into the match. Lima has secured more than half (11) of his 17 career victories by submission.
A UFC, Strikeforce and WEC veteran, Martin will enter his
promotional debut on the strength of three consecutive wins. The
30-year-old Chicagoan last fought under the Nemesis Fighting banner
in December, when he stopped Josh Martin
on first-round punches at the Barcelo Convention Center in Punta
Cana, Dominican Republic. A crippling power puncher, Martin has
delivered 12 of his 21 professional victories by knockout or
technical knockout. He owns notable victories over the world-ranked
Chael
Sonnen, “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 4 alum Jorge Rivera
and Ivan
Salaverry.
A light heavyweight title bout between the once-beaten Ryan Jimmo and Strikeforce veteran Zak Cummings will serve as the co-headliner. MFC 27 -- which also features a lightweight duel pairing Hermes Franca with Robert Washington, a welterweight tilt pitting Pete Spratt against Demi Deeds and a lightweight battle matching Marcus Davis with Curtis Demarce -- airs on HDNet at 10 p.m. ET.
