The missed opportunities are starting to pile up for Paul Daley.
Banished from the Ultimate Fighting Championship following his post-fight sucker punch on Josh Koscheck at UFC 113 in 2010, Daley on Dec. 25 was forced to exit the Bellator Fighting Championships Season 8 welterweight tournament due to ongoing visa issues. The 29-year-old Brit -- who has become as well-known for his inability to make weight as he has for his lethal left hook -- had recorded three wins in his past four outings and likely would have entered the eight-man draw as one of the favorites.
One of the welterweight division’s most feared strikers, Daley has secured 21 of his 30 career victories by knockout or technical knockout. He was at his peak three years ago, when he scored back-to-back wins over Martin Kampmann and Dustin Hazelett inside the UFC. Daley fought for the Strikeforce welterweight crown in April 2011, losing to Nick Diaz in one of the year’s most memorable bouts.
