SAO JOSÉ DOS CAMPOS, Brazil, April 13 -- Andre Santos (Pictures) rallied for an entertaining win
Sunday at the fifth edition of Real Fight.
American Geno Vitale was all over Santos early, surprising him with strong attacks and almost finishing the fight. The Brazilian maintained his composure, though, and secured his favorite submission: the anaconda choke.
Vitale tried to escape through various maneuvers, but the luta
livre standout would not release the hold.
"‘Chatuba' fought very well and won a major victory," said Santos' trainer, Marcio Cromado. "We had 100 percent tonight. It is luta livre."
Medeiros boldly continued into the second round. After taking more hard shots from Tressino, Medeiros caught him in a perfect kneebar for the win.
Julian Soares did not want to strike with the dangerous Ivanildo Cafu. During the three rounds of the fight, Soares showed strong wrestling and took down his opponent several times. He also controlled on the ground for a unanimous decision.
With better ground skills, Rafael Motta (Pictures) always sought to take his fight against Rafael Imilio to the mat, where he controlled the positioning. Imilio, in turn, escaped the attacks of his opponent and threatened on the feet. However, Motta's takedowns and control won him a unanimous decision.
Eduardo Toledo entertained the audience with his bout against Fabiano Astorino. Not wishing to fight on the feet, Toledo took his opponent to the ground and eventually finished Astorino with an armbar in the first round.
Ronald Buiu made his MMA debut against Amizael Gomes. Representing the team of Paulo Filho (Pictures), Buiu grounded his opponent and dominated positioning with a tight game on the mat. After scoring with strikes, Buiu submitted Gomes with a keylock from inside the guard in the first round.
Geovanne Chuck put his BJJ into practice to defeat Cemir da Silva. The first round saw ground and pound from Chuck, who returned even better in the second. Again he took his opponent to the canvas, dropped some blows, took the back and submitted da Silva with a rear-naked choke.
In the first professional MMA fight of the night, Felipe Vidal showed an aggressive BJJ game against Felipe Arantes. He took down Arantes in the first round and finished him with a perfect armbar.
Real Fight 5 also had three preliminary bouts sanctioned by the National Circuit of Amateur MMA. Eder defeated Leonardo Soares Mendes by decision; Deneval Naja submitted Sandro da Silva with a keylock in the first round; and, in an exciting fight, Talita Andréia defeated Fabrina via decision.

Thiago Medeiros, a
pupil of Paulo Filho
(Pictures), had a tough time against
Fernando Tressino
(Pictures) in the only heavyweight
fight of the night. The 40-year-old Tressino was taken down, but he
quickly reversed and punished Medeiros with strong punches that
nearly led to a stoppage.
