By the Numbers: UFC on Fox 18

Anthony Johnson doesn’t like to waste time when he’s fighting on Fox.

“Rumble” continued to establish himself as the scariest man in the light heavyweight division, as he knocked out Ryan Bader with punches from back mount 1:26 into the opening round of the UFC on Fox 18 headliner in Newark, N.J., on Saturday night.

There really wasn’t much to the victory, which is a testament to Johnson’s prodigious power. Approximately one year ago it was on display at a Fox event as well, when he knocked out Alexander Gustafsson 2:15 into the opening frame of their main event encounter at UFC on Fox 14. 10: KO/TKO triumphs in UFC competition for Johnson, tying him with Chuck Liddell for third most in promotion history. “Rumble” made short work of Bader, sprawling on a takedown, moving to his foe’s back and unloading with hard ground-and-pound from there to force the stoppage. Only Anderson Silva (11) and Vitor Belfort (10) have more.

0: Strikes landed and attempted by Bader, who attempted an ill-advised takedown at the outset of the light heavyweight bout. Johnson need a total of 13 strikes — 11 significant — to clinch the victory.

3: Consecutive victories by Nikita Krylov and Anderson Silva, who are currently tied for the second-longest active winning streak in the light heavyweight division after Bader’s loss ended his five-bout run. Jon Jones is first with 12 straight triumphs.

4: Consecutive heavyweight triumphs for Ben Rothwell, who submitted Josh Barnett with a modified guillotine choke in the second round of the co-main event. That’s the second-longest active winning streak in the division, behind only Fabricio Werdum, who has won six straight.

4: Consecutive finishes in the Octagon for Rothwell, the third-longest active finishing streak in the UFC. Featherweight champion Conor McGregor and welterweight king Luke Rockhold are tied for first with five consecutive stoppage victories.

41: Professional fights without a true submission defeat for Barnett before he tapped against Rothwell. The two previous losses on Barnett’s record that are recorded as submissions came as a result of punches (vs. Mirko Filipovic at Pride FC “Final Conflict Absolute”) and injury (vs. Filipovic at Pride 28).

18: Consecutive victories for Jimmie Rivera, who earned his third straight UFC triumph with a unanimous decision over Iuri Alcantara in a featured bantamweight bout. Rivera is tied with Urijah Faber for the third-longest active winning streak at 135 pounds in the Las Vegas-based promotion.

5: Fighters in UFC history to earn a win via arm-triangle submission from either full or half guard after Bryan Barberena accomplished the feat 3:06 into the second round against previously unbeaten prospect Sage Northcutt.

34: Total strikes by which Barberena outlanded Northcutt in round two before securing the fight-ending submission. Barberena moved into top position when Northcutt attempted a rolling kick early in the period, and he proceeded to batter his foe with ground-and-pound before getting the arm-triangle choke.

1-5: Record for Jake Ellenberger in his last six bouts, with his lone win coming against a slumping Josh Koscheck at UFC 184. “The Juggernaut” dropped a unanimous decision to Tarec Saffiedine at UFC on Fox 18 on Saturday. Before his recent skid, Ellenberger won eight of his first 10 fights in the Octagon.

483: Days since Saffiedine’s last promotional appearance, a third-round TKO loss to Rory MacDonald at UFC Fight Night in Halifax in October 2014.

24: Significant strikes by which Saffiedine outlanded Ellenberger (54 to 30) in the welterweight bout. The 30 significant strikes landed by Ellenberger were the third-most of his Octagon tenure.

4: Consecutive UFC triumphs for Rafael Natal, the third longest active winning streak in the middleweight division behind Yoel Romero (seven) and Luke Rockhold (five). Natal stopped Kevin Casey with punches from mount 3:37 into the third round of their 185-pound scrap on Saturday.

36: Takedowns landed in UFC competition for Natal, the most in middleweight history. “Sapo” landed four takedowns against Casey to pass Chael Sonnen (35) and move into first place on Saturday.

9: Takedowns landed, in 23 attempts, by Wilson Reis in his unanimous decision triumph over Dustin Ortiz at flyweight. The Brazilian was especially overwhelming in round three, when he landed six of 10 takedown tries.

7: Guard passes executed by Reis, who moved to his opponent’s back on several occasions.

1: KO/TKO defeat in 23 professional fights for George Sullivan, who was knocked out by Alexander Yakovlev 3:59 into the opening stanza of their welterweight clash.

8: Consecutive fights that went to the judges’ scorecards for Yakovlev prior to his finish of Sullivan. The 31-year-old Russian went 4-3-1 in those contests, including 1-2 in the UFC.

74: Significant strikes landed by Alex Caceres, the third-highest total of his 13-bout UFC tenure. “Bruce Leeroy” outlanded opponent Masio Fullen by 38 significant strikes in their featherweight bout.

7: Unofficial media scorecards tracked by MMADecisions.com that scored the featherweight bout between Levan Makashvili and Damon Jackson in favor of Makashvili. Three saw the fight for Jackson, while four others scored it a draw. The official ruling was a majority draw, the first such result in the UFC thus far in 2016.

21: Significant strikes by which Makashvili outlanded Jackson. “The Hornet” also landed the only two takedowns of the fight.

28: Significant leg strikes landed by Felipe Olivieri in his lightweight bout against Tony Martin, who landed just one. Martin, however, rallied to submit his Brazilian foe with a rear-naked choke 3:02 into round three.
