Spike TV: UFC 129 ‘Prelims Live’ Special Netted 1.5M Viewers

The hour-long “UFC Prelims Live” special for UFC
129 earned an average of 1.5 million viewers on Saturday night,
tying the fourth-largest viewership figure in the program’s
history.
Sherdog.com obtained the viewership information from Spike TV officials Tuesday. As is the standard, the special aired one hour prior to the start of the UFC 129 pay-per-view event.
The “Prelims Live” broadcast also earned a 1.0 household rating and posted figures of 1.3 and 1.5 in the Male 18-49 and 18-34 demographics, respectively. According to Spike TV, the program ranked No. 1 among basic cable networks in both aforementioned demographics during its time slot.
Featured on the broadcast were a pair of entertaining welterweight scraps, as Canadian prospect Rory MacDonald suplexed his way to a unanimous decision over the seasoned Nate Diaz, while American wrestler Jake Ellenberger knocked out hometown favorite Sean Pierson in the first round.
The largest UFC event in history, UFC 129 was attended by 55,724 spectators for a live gate of $12.075 million, shattering previous company records. The event was headlined by a welterweight title clash that saw Georges St. Pierre successfully defend his belt against former Strikeforce champ Jake Shields. The card also featured a featherweight championship bout, as Jose Aldo outpointed Mark Hominick to retain his title in the co-main event.
