ShoBox Weigh-in Results: Prograis, Diaz Jr. on Weight for HoF Weekend
ShoBox: The New Generation continues to be one of the best
platforms in the world for young boxers trying to turn themselves
into stars. On Friday night, right in the middle of the
International Boxing Hall of Fame induction weekend, the longtime
Showtime boxing series will deliver a tripleheader from Turning
Stone Resort Casino in Verona, N.Y., just minutes from the IBHOF in
Canastota.
Headlining the action will be a super lightweight showdown between Regis Prograis (19-0, 16 KOs) and Joel Diaz Jr. (23-0,19 KOs), who will meet in a scheduled 10-rounder. At Thursday’s weigh-ins, both men were on point, giving the event the expected green light. Diaz Jr. was the first to step onto the scale and he came in at 137.25 pounds. Prograis was a bit heavier but still on weight; he weighed in at 139.5 pounds.
ShoBox analysts Barry Tompkins and Steve Farhood will call the in-ring action on Friday before they are immortalized via enshrinement on Sunday, along with legends Evander Holyfield, Marco Antonio Barrera and the late, great Johnny Tapia.
The action will air live on Showtime beginning at 10:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. PT.
Demond Nicholson (162.5) vs. Steve Rolls (161)
Jon Fernandez (132.5) vs. Juan Reyes (131.5)
