Dubai’s Intimacy Problems

Fighters accustomed to the encouraged hedonism of Las Vegas may
want to think twice before hosting UAE groupies: according to the
BBC, a British couple visiting Dubai last November are now serving
a month in jail for kissing in
public.
“The initial complaint against them was made by a 38-year-old woman who said she was offended by their behavior at the Jumeirah Beach Residence, where she was dining with her daughter,” wrote the author. “The pair's defense lawyers said the woman -- who did not appear in court -- had not seen the kiss herself, but had been told by her two-year-old child that the girl had seen them kissing.” The man was Muslim, which allegedly influenced the Dubai judge’s ruling.
This is not intended to incriminate the culture of the UAE, which is obviously free to set social limits where and how they please -- but it is a curious indication of how vastly different their standards of behavior are, even for a climate full of modern architecture and the appearance of progressive thinking. Are fighters prepared for this? And is Arianny not even going to bother going?
