Dmitry Bivol Torches Samuel Clarkson in ShoBox Main Event
Dmitry Bivol was sensational in the main event of the ShoBox: The
New Generation card Friday night as he thoroughly dominated Samuel
Clarkson before knocking him senseless in spectacular fashion.
Bivol never allowed Clarkson to get into a rhythm and nearly had
him out in the first.
Bivol dropped his foe twice in the opening frame with rights to the head and though Clarkson survived the round, he was in way over his head. Bivol (10-0, 8 KOs) patiently picked Clarkson apart, rarely wasting his punches and when the time came to end the fight, it was over. Just as Clarkson (21-4, 12 KOs) was trying to set up an attack, Bivol unleashed a brutal left-right to the cranium that floored him for good. Referee Harvey Dock waived off the bout officially at the 1:40 mark of the fourth, allowing Bivol to remain undefeated.
The co-feature inside the MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Md., saw Malik Hawkins tear up Carlos Soto (13-1-2, 7 KOs) so badly that the fight was stopped in between rounds two and three. Hawkins (11-0, 8 KOs) battered his Mexican counterpart from the start and busted up his face. A gnarly welt formed over Soto’s left eye and when the second round was over, the ringside physician deemed him unfit to continue.
In the first bout on the Showtime-televised main card, super bantamweight prospect Glenn Dezurn won an eight-round unanimous decision over Leroy Davila. The action was superb throughout but Dezurn landed the better, more telling blows. In the end, all three ringside judges favored Dezurn (9-0, 6 KOs) via tallies of 78-74. Davila fell to 5-1 with 3 KOs.
Hasim Rahman Jr. looked like his famous former world champion father by knocking fellow heavyweight Ralph Alexander in just 40 seconds. Rahman Jr. trapped Alexander (0-1) in a corner and unloaded a storm of punches until the ref stopped it. The non-televised bout was young Rahman’s pro debut.
