Carlos Soto Added to April 14 ShoBox Card to Face Malik Hawkins
Showtime announced Thursday afternoon that Juan Ruiz (18-0, 11 KOs)
had to withdraw from his ShoBox: The New Generation bout against
Malik Hawkins next week. An injury to Ruiz’ right hand in training
prompted the removal and now Hawkins will face Carlos Soto in his
stead.
Soto (13-0-2, 7 KOs) will be making his U.S. and television debut with the bout. After staying idle on the sidelines for three years due to issues with his promoter, Soto returned to action in February, where he stopped Alonso Martinez in the third. Hawkins (10-0, 7 KOs) is expected to be a perfect opponent for him at this juncture in his career.
The action will go live on Showtime beginning at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT with featherweight prospect Glenn Dezurn (8-0, 6 KOs) taking on an opponent still to be named. MGM National Harbor in National Harbor, Md., will be the host location, with the main event being a light heavyweight attraction between Dmitry Bivol (9-0, 7 KOs) and Samuel Clarkson (19-3, 12 KOs) over 12 rounds.
