Caballero vs. Negrete Set for June 30 Golden Boy Promotions on ESPN Card
A pair of unbeaten super bantamweights will collide in the main
event of a Golden Boy Promotions on ESPN card as Randy Caballero
will take on Oscar Negrete on June 30. The two will headline what
will be the 50th boxing event that Golden Boy has hosted at Fantasy
Springs Casino in Indio, Calif.
Caballero (21-0, 14 KOs) will put his regional title on the line for the first time when he meets Negrete. The battle is scheduled for 10 rounds and Caballero, a former IBF bantamweight world champ, is ready to continue his ascent toward another world title.
“I've told everyone who will listen that my goal is to regain a
world championship belt, and this is another step on that path,”
Caballero said. “I know my opponent is undefeated, but he's never
been in the ring with anyone close to my ability, and I'm confident
that I'm going to take his ‘0’ on June 30.”
Negrete (16-0, 6 KOs) is coming off an impressive unanimous decision win over Victor Ruiz during Cinco de Mayo weekend, but he has yet to face someone the caliber of Caballero. He said he’s not going to let the big stage get to him and is eager to prove himself against the best.
“I'm excited to compete for my first regional belt, especially on ESPN,” Negrete said. “People may overlook me, but after June 30, everyone will know that I am a force in the super bantamweight division.”
In the televised co-feature, Lamont Roach Jr. (13-0, 5 KOs) will take on an opponent yet to be determined. The bout will be a 10-rounder in the super featherweight division. Also, if broadcast time permits, Genaro Gamez (4-0, 3 KOs) will face Miguel Barajas (2-2, 1 KO) in a 130-pound six round affair.
