Beatdown: Bermudez, Dean
TJ De Santis and Jeff Sherwood returned to the Sherdog Radio
Network for another edition of “Beatdown.” Joining them on
Wednesday’s show was UFC featherweight Dennis
Bermudez and referee Herb Dean.
“The Ultimate Fighter” season 14 finalist Dennis Bermudez found himself in a fight last Saturday night. After a close second round with Matt Grice Bermudez wasn’t sure he was going to get the nod if the bout went the full 15 minutes. The featherweight threw all caution aside and nearly defeated Grice by stoppage. The judges rewarded his effort with a split-decision nod. UFC President Dana White rewarded him with an extra $50,000 bonus check for “fight of the night.” Bermudez joined “Beatdown” to talk about the bout, if he felt he deserved the nod, and how being a UFC fighter still seems surreal.
Herb Dean was the third man in the cage for the Bermudez-Grice match. The veteran MMA official joined De Santis and Sherwood to chat about his decision to allow Grice to continue despite being seriously rocked in the final round. Dean talks about the decision process in those situations, what he does to be as consistent as possible and why he allowed Grice to continue when he didn’t allow Josh Koscheck to fight on later in the evening. Dean also chats about his upcoming seminars this spring.
